M-League 1997 Fact and Figures

  • Darren Stewart saw the 2nd red card after only playing for the third matches for Johor. For the last 6 years in Malaysia, he never received any red card.
  • Johor has the most red cards flashing to their players, 5.
  • Azmi Mohamed of N9 is a super-sub. He scored 5 goals so far coming off the bench. Another 2 when he was in the 1st 11 for the total of 7 goals and the best hitman among locals.
  • The most expensive local player, Azman Adnan only managed to score 2 goals in 1st round.
  • Trengganu goes all the way to FA Cup semifinal without any single win within 90 minutes in the previous rounds matches. They beat Perak 5-4 on penalty and beat Johor with a golden goal during extra time.
  • The worst brawl this year resulting on 7 players suspended. Kelantan lost Captain's Zahasmi Ismail(12 games), ViceCap's Zulkifli Abdullah(5), Mario Gomez and Alif Rohaimi(4) while Trengganu lost Seidu Issifu(5), Zulhamizan Zakaria and Jean Nyima(4).
  • Kelantan is 2-1-7 after losing their captain, Zahasmi Ismail during an infamous brawl of Kelantan-Trengganu. Prior to the brawl, Kelantan was 3-1-0.
  • 5 is the longest winning streak (by NSembilan, from game 8 to 12).
  • 5 is the longest losing streak (by Trengganu, from game 3 to 7).
  • 8 is the longest loseless streak (by Sabah, from game 6 to 13).
  • 8 is the longest winless streak (by Penang, from game 4 to 11).
  • Selangor has the best 18 players registered for M-League plus international, M.Chandran registered under reserve league. However, they only manage to collect 22 points out of possible 42 and lies on the 6th place.
  • Airton Androli of N9 is the first foreign player to go. He was sacked after the 12th games of N9. Mustaca Christian of Penang is the next to go. He was sacked after the first round. 
  • The first goal of M-League was scored by foreign player, Christopher Mandla of Selangor while the last goal of 1st round was also scored by foreign player, Patron Akapo of Brunei.
  • 10 is the most goal scored in a game when Brunei thrashed Kelantan 8-2 and also become the highest margin so far.
  • The most goals scored by a player in a single game is 3, by Patron Akapo when Brunei beat Kelantan 8-2. This is also the only hattrick done in 1st round. 
  • 6 matches ended up goalless draw.
  • 275 goals has been scored (Sar vs Prk match not included).

  • Only Sabah and Selangor managed to be at the top of the table (by end of the week-friday) in which Selangor held for 2 weeks (week5 and week7) and Sabah for 8 weeks.
